As golf courses continue to operate and people wonder what precautions each course is doing.
Handling the flagsticks and touching the cups have been a concern of many players and course staff.
After hearing about some courses raising their cups above the green surface and others putting pvc collars in the cup, my crew and I came up with this for our course.
COVID-19 Cup Spacer using 2 inch pvc pipe cut to 3 inches long with a pool noodle inserted inside.  This assembly slides over the flag pole and is pushed down to the ferrule.

    Kelley,

I like it.  You might want to look into a patent on that.

We have looked at a lot of the ideas, and for us, we designed what looks to be a white ballard to replace the flagstick. Our concern is that with the flagstick still being there, people will still walk up and grab it and may run into some people trying to force the cup down. We came up with this PVC concept that eliminates the flagstick and is low enough that people are less likely to try to grab it. It is a 3" pvc pipe cit at 18" with a coupling put on one end and cap on the other end. We then took some old cups and tapped the coupling end down into the cup which wedge it in. It is wide enough that it is easily seen and range finder can easily pick it up. You could make at any length you like, we may have to make one a little longer as the green is up on a hill and hard to see the ballard from the bottom. Just trying to eliminate as many touch areas as possible. See pics below.
Here in Ohio, we just went to a Stay At Home policy and waiting for clarification from the state on if turf departments are allowed to continue working or not as what we and they consider essential seem to differ at times.
Good luck and be safe out there!
    Paul
