I am looking to control my irrigation system via remote control. I have the set-up for Rain Bird Freedom but need a new radio. I thought I might look at using a smart phone remote access but Rain Bird MI Mobile Controller is too expensive for my budget. Can something like PC anywhere be used via smart phone to control my irrigation system. Does anyone use this or any other method? I would like to control/monitor from home if I can. Or should I just get a new Freedom radio.

    Thanks,

    Brian

I currently use a Samsung Tab 3 from Sprint with 2gig of data per month for $15/month and the tab was $49. I use the TeamViewer http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx app to gain access on the tablet, my phone, my assistant on his phone or any computer. We used to use LogMeIN but TeamViewer works much better. Went to this after we found out it would cost $7k + to replace our wideband Freedom repeater. I wish Rainbird would come up with a cheaper alternative for mobile access, especially since Toro offers their app for free. The only downfall is with the Freedom radios multiple people can be using them as long as you don't step on each other while only one person at a time can be logged in with the remote client.

Although we use the MI we also us an apple app called Splashtop to log into the computer. I like using the MI when operating stations on the course and using the Splashtop to adjust programs or see the system operation from home. The MI comes in different versions at different prices but I agree that Rainbird should have a version priced around the cost of a new radio. When on the course I think the MI or a freedom radio gives you the most flexibility.
