Quick question on smart phones Cancel The title field is required!

   I have a quick question we forgot to ask our salesperson, how does one scan those square patches on items or for apps like the GIS app for our phones?
   
   I was thinking we hold it over the square and then snap a picture, is that how it's done? Is it different for different phones? (we have iPhone5's)
