I just got off the phone with my younger son who just graduated with a computer degree. One of his freelance client's websites was hacked. It shut down the client's website, but the hacker was not able to do anything except that. My son is in South Florida and the hacker is currently very close to having someone knock on his door in Indiana. It will be at least a month before the hacker will have full access to any of his personal accounts, including bank accounts. This computer stuff is not only amazing, it is dangerous. My son assures me that you are safe as long as you do not answer spam. My son knows the hacker's name, address, social security number, bank account numbers, passwords... all from his home computer.

So your son, to catch a hacker that broke the law and shut down someone else website, broke the law by hacking into the hackers computer and stole the hackers personal info and is restricting the hackers access to his personal data?

Myself I never put any password on my computer, also my SS number, drivers license or any personal info at all. I do have it all in long hand in my safe. I do use a sheet on the wall behind my computer but not in view of the web cam. I cover my web cam when not in use also. My pass words are mostly 16 digit long with upper lower numbers and symbols when possible. I keep up with the best Virus control I can get.
I have a brother that was a hacker and had a run-in with Johnny law a few years back, told me that even with my control a good hacker would be able to crack-in in almost no time. Of course he would not find much except photos and fun stuff. All my real files are on a hard drive and DVD's.
We are entering a new time and world and it will be hard to keep up with.

    Keith

I am not an expert at this. My son is. Are you?

Or are you saying that your son had to hack into the hackers computer in order to catch him and turn him over to the police? I'm just curious to know why your son has all that info now.

I think the point is that his son is that good!
Knowing a little about computers myself that is impressive. most great hackers can hack from their own computer but in a way where it can pass through many, many different computers or sites all over the states or world where the bottom line is that they cannot be caught or extremely difficult to catch. I just hope the guy that started the hack did not do this and his son is sitting with all of someone elses info.

There has been many shows and movies made with computer info that seems like it is too far out there to be true but in reality a great hacker can work hazards with most computerized systems. It is all in the code. The every day Joe does not have a clue as to what can be done through computers.
