Tensions are running high here in Florida. Looked like the guys in Ft. Meyers/Naples were looking at landfall, but it seems to keep moving West. We were looking at the eye going right over us here today also, but "keep that thing moving west!" Keep everyone here in Florida in your thoughts today as it could be a long night also.

Good luck to all of you FL. Irma seems to be a moving target. Keep your head on a swivel.

My dad lives at the Plantation G and CC in Venice. He said minimal damage to his house. My sister lives 1 mile due north of Cinderella's castle and she said they lost some shingles on her house and many neighbors lost trees but overall not bad.

I think we dodged a bullet. Eye went just east of my house by about 28 miles but considerably weaker than expected. Lost about a dozen shingles and knocked a bunch of plants over otherwise good. That wind was impressive to watch and listen to last night/early this morning!!

Now that everyone seems to have made it through Irma OK, can we move onto scoffing at and basic ridicule of all media networks and their goofy weather correspondents?

Great news that everybody on the peninsula seems to be okay, but apparently the Keys have been slammed and they're still assessing the damage and not letting anyone in.

We evacuated from Naples and are planning to leave in the morning to try to get back home. From the reports I'm hearing, it may be weeks before power is restored and the municipal water supply is compromised, so a boil water notice has been issued, There's no gas, Ive got a full tank and 20 gallons in cans to make it home from Panama City.
We have been treated very kindly here and I appreciate everything that the people of the Panhandle have done. At this point, I wish I could stay. Still no reports on how our house fared, so that may be a surprise.
Some of us may have dodged a bullet, but many Floridians got hit hard and are suffering. Please donate to the Red Cross if you can.

    Regards,

    Steve

I was referencing Keith's post. I should have qualified that better.

Naples and Ft. Myers got rocked. Seems the east coast took a hammering as well. We did okay in Ocala. Lots without power and a ton of debris everywhere. Fuel was nowhere to be found until this morning. We were running low on Diesel trying to keep sewage lift stations online. Power started coming back on and we took delivery today. Another 48 hours and we should be back to normal.

Keith - did you say a prayer or two Sunday night as Irma was knocking on your back door?

Send money, not prayers...lol. I fell asleep around 11 pm at the height of the storm. I think the sound of the wind put me to sleep zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Got power back to the shop today, none at the house yet. No power to the pump station yet which is where I really need it. Trying to find a generator big enough to power up one turbine but no luck so far. I'm also looking for a pump that I could pressure my mainline with.
The house came through ok, minor damage, some neighbors are decimated and living in their cars. We're starting to get some gas back into the area and the lines are not so long. Can't drink the water and some neighborhoods have sewer water coming up through the drains because the lift stations are down. It's really hot and there's another storm out there.

Every day, things get a little better. The power came back on at home last night. It was 91 inside the house and Miss Jackie turned the thermostat down to 68. When I told her that was too low she offered to knife me if I got anywhere near the thing.
Got power back to the pump station and the guys from Wescoturf and Systematic Services were here today to make sure the pumps are ok and fix my antenna which disappeared and is presumably somewhere out in the Gulf, so now my computer is communicating with the gateway and I can irrigate. The radio antenna should be here tomorrow so we can get those working again.
Still can't drink the water, but it's a lot easier to put up with if you can get into the A/C from time to time.
We have about a thousand trees down and the roads are lined with debris to be picked up and hauled off, the water has gone down by several feet so it's easier to get around and get to the trees that need to be removed.
The front nine was only sprigged about a month ago, so there's a lot of damage there and I already have members wanting to know when we can open.
Long, hard days ahead, but we are lucky that it wasn't worse. I still have 2 crewman stuck somewhere and everybody has damage to their homes.
I really appreciate the support that our industry partners have offered and their willingness to sweat alongside us.
    Stay safe out there,

    Steve
