Looking for thoughts on late season top dressing bent greens.  Also, early season top dressing before green up.

Always have done it here in Colorado.  Provides good insulation to the crown and seems to help with wear, as the grass can't recover in the winter.  We topdress a few days after applying our winter snow mold application, use the cocoa mat or speed brush (just one or maybe two passes), and we are good for the winter.  I don't generally do another top dressing in the spring until the grass is at least fully out of dormancy and after my first mow or two.

I bury my greens every winter with a heavy topdressing. No brush. Just let it sit. Here in Northwest Indiana, in a typical winter that means enough rain and snow to naturally incorporate the sand over the winter months. Crown protection is the main goal. Its not super effective, but I get a bunch of sand added to my greens for cheap.

In the spring, I go out an aerify as soon as possible, usually like mid-late March. This involves the typical topdressing to fill holes. I've learned the most important thing is to be gentle with the brush. Having a dialed-in topdressing is pretty key. I love going out early. Its a huge thing to check off the list and I don't have to race for recovery.
