Very sad day for San Diego. Mr. Padre Tony Gwynn passed away from cancer. What a great baseball career he had and a great person. RIP #19.

I just saw that. I remember seeing Tony playing basketball for the Aztecs vs. CSU when I was a kid. I've yet to see anyone fill up a hoop like he could. He couldn't miss.

One of the greatest hitters and arguably the greatest person the game has known. It's a sad day for baseball.

Tony was a classy man and loved to help others on and off the playing field. He was a player that I grew up admiring. I remember meeting him a few times out on the golf course when he would play at Escondido Country Club. My dad was the Superintendent there and would comp him and his group all the time. My dad would even take me out of school for the day, when he had professional athletes play his course and I would be able to talk baseball with them. Fond memories of the best Padre of all time. RIP #19

I hope Tony's passing makes him a huge poster boy for people thinking sensibly about smokeless tobacco. It killed him and if he was able to he would yell it out loud and clear. I am not for much for bans on things but isn't it about time everyone who partakes should give it some serious thought? If you chew, quit! Discourage your friends from doing it. The cancer Tony died from is ugly. Sort of like lung cancer in that you can deny all you want but your vice is making you unhealthy and killing you! Does anyone really want that to happen to themselves? I doubt it! Tony's passing just might wake a few people up and that would be good! Terrible loss for baseball, San Diego and manking in general. As Albert stated, he was a special guy!
