Now that the local water district met yesterday to approve a 20% water reduction this summer the rain has finally started this morning. Let's hope that the 10 day forecast that shows a chance of some pretty good rain on most of those days is right. Currently sitting at about 2.25" since July but have already had a little over .10" this morning. Pretty sad when we get excited about tenths but it's all we have right now.

    Pray for a lot more!!!!

    Gary,
Can you please send us in San Diego some of that rain. I miss the 25 to 35 inches of rain, when I was at Gilroy Golf Course. I know it has not been that much rain, the last few years up in Northern California.

    Alberto,

I heard that the next one was going to head more south so there might still be hope for you guys. Raining as hard right now at the course as it has in the last two years. Still only have just over a half inch today but the radar looks good for a some more before things calm down later tonight. Always nice when you can actually hear the rain falling outside the building!

Hope you guys get some as well.

Hey it's coming south! Light showers in San Clemente right now, maybe we'll get a tenth of an inch or so this morning. Big one coming tomorrow and Sat. 1.5-3 inches along the coast. If we get 3 that'll be more than the whole season so far for us. I've got every aerifier we own going full bore yesterday and today. :D

    Alberto and Gus,

We ended up with 1.25" in the rain gauge this morning which was about an inch more than was predicted for down in the valley from this storm. Some of the places up in the mountains were well over 4". Still not an end to the drought but considering we only had less than 4" of rain in the last 12 months it was nice to get. They're still saying we should get more rain than this out of the next storm tomorrow so hoping we do.

We'll try to send some more south when we can!

Only got 1/4" in a 24 hour period. Will take all I can get. The big storm is starting to hit us right now. It will be a nice short day. Would go home right now, but have to see the Dr. at 8 am. Work injuries suck. :(

    Alberto,

Had over another inch of rain last night which gives us more in the last two days then we had in last 10 months. Looks like you guys down south are getting even more than us. We have more for today and tomorrow and scattered rains in the coming week. Let's hope we get at least a few weeks of this as reservoirs up here have picked up about 5% in last two days but still only 35% full.

News down here are saying we should be getting an inch of rain an hour. It will be interesting on how accurate they are. We are at half an inch total right now. Hoping for a bunch of rain.

Hope you guys are surviving the storms. Just got off the phone with my mother who is in the Central Valley 35 miles south of Fresno and she just lost a huge cedar tree in her front yard taking out the power lines and a power pole blocking the road in front of her house. Looks like some of the typical severe thunderstorms we get here all summer when I looked at radar. Stay safe.

    Gary,
We got just over 2 inches of rain from this storm. From October/November our rain fall total was just over 5 inches. I will take all we can get. We had no major damage from the high winds, only a bunch of small branches and bark from the sycamore trees and eucalyptus trees. This week will be a fun clean up week for my 2 maintenance workers. Hopefully I will hire a new employee on Tuesday. Hope you all survived this wonderful rain storm.

3 inches in San Clemente, doubling up our season total thus far. Only cost us two cruddy Aleppo pines and a couple of days of cleanup. Palm fronds and eucalyptus debris everywhere. We got all the fairways and about half the rough aerified just before the rain and today the grass looks happy.

Only bummer was the dirt road I live on got washed out Friday and we were stranded for about 24 hours. Finally got down there Saturday afternoon with the tractor after the rain let up a bit, and the neighbor and I made it barely passable. Lots of mud and misc. washouts still to repair. Course comes first, rancho second. All in all, it was a good thing for most of us.

We ended up with just under 3" here at the course but some places up in the hills were over 7". Still getting a fair amount of runoff into the reservoirs which all came up several feet but still need a lot more. Right now they still have only gotten up to about 36% of capacity. Expecting some more rain later today into tomorrow morning but nothing major and then a chance for some more later in the week.

Overall, the course took the water pretty well and not a lot of debris as the winds never really got too bad. Had carts on paths for the weekend but were able to turn them loose at 90 degrees (which in our case means they pretty much drive wherever they want) this morning.

Hoping for more later this week....we sure need it.

Long-term forecast is calling for chance of rain again through the next 6-7 days so let's hope so. Not expecting a lot but anything will help at this point with us still showing under 5" of rain since last spring. We were already back to running irrigation cycles again after the last storms a few weeks back. Getting a nice little rain shower right now so let's hope it keeps up and gives us at least enough to get through a few more weeks.

It just started to sprinkle here in Stockton just 60 miles East of you. Nothing yesterday. No wind to speak of.

    Gus

When in San Juan Capistrano just a couple miles from you for those that don't know I used to say that it had the best weather in the world. 300 days at 74 degrees, 50 a little cooler, 50 a little warmer and 2 days of rain.As long as they send you Gary's water you don't need rain.

    Gary,
I was running irrigation 4 days after receiving 2 inches of rain during the last rain storm. From June 28, 2013 to as of now, I have used over 40 million gallons of water on 9 holes. I am 100% sand based and do not hold the moisture to well. After fairway aerification this week, my height of cut for the fairways will be raised to 1 inch. This will help out in cutting down on the stress from the golf cart. Only cart paths we have are around greens, tees and par 3's. Looking forward to another hot summer.

    Guys,

Kind of fizzled out after only .2" and with the breeze blowing this afternoon it will be dry in a few hours. Let's hope for better luck with the next one on Saturday. :(

About a tenth here. Not much more than an exaggerated drizzle. I think they'd call it dew in Ireland. Still, I'll take it.

.09 in the east county of San Diego. All it did was eliminate a night of irrigation. Calling for more today but I really doubt it. Horrible though but I think the SoCal rain year is over!

Got about .25" again on Saturday but we have a nice storm visiting us right now. This is probably the hardest I've seen it rain at the course in the last two years right now. Wish it would stay like this for at least a few hours. Like I said in an earlier post, it's nice to actually hear the rain falling on the roof.

Hope some of it gets south but I don't think so. Bad news is that they are already calling for temps back near the 80 degree mark by the weekend.
