I have never experienced this before.  Kohler Command Pro CH730 Starter engages in run position and stays engaged until the key is returned to the off position.  No difference between start and run position.  The starter and ignition switch are new.  Wiring reconnected as it was before.  Read online that the problem is most likely a blown diode in the wiring harness.  There is a diode present in the wiring harness.  Thoughts?

Did you find the problem Chris?
I had a JD 8800 do this this last summer and when I took the starter to him he told me that the issue is generally in the switch but once the starter is running while the motor is running you will most likely need to rebuild it.

Have a diode on the way.

It has a new starter and a new switch.

Don't over rule the new parts. I have had brand new bad ones before. if the problem was there before you installed them then it is less likely they are the culprit.

Received the new diode and installed.  Problem solved.  First time ever working with diodes.  Learn something new every day.
