Nothing new here....but sometimes it can help others communicate to their audience. Give your answer to: What do you do all winter?

    Hey Kevin,

I'm not in the great white north, but wanted to chime in on here to let others know how I thoroughly enjoy the blog, Twitter and Facebook updates from their maintenance departments all winter. Although we do not have the downtime in Florida as you guys do up north, I get some really great ideas from all the "winter work" that is performed. In fact, a lot of it even amazes me in regards to the talent that is on staff. Lots of wood working projects, custom course accessories and renovation of on-course restrooms, all performed in-house, is something to be proud of.

Keep up the good work and keep those pictures flowing!

We are in Northeast Utah. It gets really cold here, however it seems like the work never slows down. We rebuild, refurbish, and grind about 55 reels and bedknifes. We service about 63 golf carts. We go through every piece of equipment and service it and perform any repairs that are needed. We refurbish all of are golf course accessories. We do a lot of training and continuing education classes. In between all that we try to take a couple days vacation and gear up for the new season.

Wait...who has down time? It goes from growing season...to construction season...to winter preparation...to snow removall/tree removal/repair you're 10 year old junk...to spring clean-up and finally back to growing season.

What do we do all winter? Work

Plow snow, service carts, service equipment, paint accessories, blow off greens/tees if open for play and plan for upcoming year. Other than that not much in south western Pennsylvania

Get laid off, then come back and wait while the National Park Service decides who they want to run the Course for the next ten years.

I am swamped with venison processing. Still. I have three dehydrators going and my Amish neighbor and I have yet to make the roasted garlic/jalapeno/cheddar bologna that members and golfers of Maple Hill GC in Central NY can't get enough of. In addition, I do sausage and of late the most popular by far- jerky (nearly 200 lbs. thus far) so when you end your emails by saying cheers kevin, you hit it on the head. By the way I still have 5 feet of snow on #15 green, and I did have a couple days which allowed me to trim trees and run the chainsaw in general.
