Can someone help me with what pond dredging costs? The reserve study we have shows $26/ Cubic Yard. It also calculates the cost as if we are going to need to dredge the entire pond. Is that a given or would it be ok to dredge just the shallow areas? Based on the reserve study we can expect a few million bucks. Was hoping that might be a bit off. Any input would be appreciated.

I cannot help you with your cost. It is a big job to dredge your ponds though. you have to consider where all of the wet material will be placed. Most counties will not let the Dump trucks haul it away from the course due to the mess it leaves on the roadways. I know a few clubs that have done a few ponds and used out of play areas to store the sludge that comes out of the ponds (like the back end of a long driving range). this stuff is not easy to mess with and will need to be dried out before you can do anything with it. I have seen a few companies that sell large bags that you place the stuff inside of and it allows the water to slowly seep out. A few years back we needed to dig some areas of our ponds deeper and opted to just dig under the sludge and pull out the clay that was under it. We stockpiled it next to the pond for a few months and then shaped it into rolling mounds which we had been using to build other things on the course with. While not the best solution it was the only one we could afford and since the track hoe was loaned to us it hardly cost us anything to get done. Our members had to put up with the construction for about 6 months (in stages) but since they did not have to cough up any money they were satisfied with the outcome plus they got a few fairway bunkers and mounding out of it to boot.

David, If you have an offer for $3M at 25$ per cubic yard then you have 120,000 cubic yards of sludge. This seems like a huge number. It is +/- a 10 acre lake with 10 feet of sediment. 40,000 sq m x 3 meters deep is 100,000 cubic meters = +/- 120,000 cubic yards.

There are several David Smiths in membership directory. I would have looked at your lake configuration on Google Maps. At my golf course we had a huge forest fire in August of 2012 and then 12 inches of rain in March 2013 that filled our signature hole river and lake in front of green with gravel , pea gravel and very high quality soil as a natural crib as it descended the mountain.

A big local construction company that built the airports, highways etc in the area moved this to another site on the golf course. This entailed +/- 100 loads of 4 cubic meters and 57 of 10 cubic meters.

You are talking 100 times as much. If you would like to contact me I consult many golf clubs for water logistics. I would have given you a few freebie ideas if I had more information.
