Had a Finance Director call me into his office today and told me no overtime for anyone any longer only in an emergency.

Just curious if the readers here would share with me their overtime numbers, (hours) per week per employee.

Mine have been roughly 3 to 4 OT hours per employee per week.

Generally zero. Finance dudes look at numbers. Numbers wise, if you are consistently working overtime, Its usually less expensive to hire additional persons. What are you budgeted for?

We budget for 7,000 a year, mechanic has the most at 7 per week working every other weekend and 42.5 hours a week. 1 retiree and one middle aged seasonal employee work 44 per week.

5 of our 6 students work 4 weekday and every other weekend for 36 per week and the other works 44 hours a week.

I think a little overtime rewards regular employees who work 12 days in a row with 2 off.

I have the same attitude. We work a 37 hour workweek (leave early on Friday) on the weeks the guys don't work the weekend. When they do work the weekend, its 43 hours. However, I can say my guys typically work 40 hours every week, so the weekends they work typically are about 5 hours OT. We work every third weekend, so it doesn't kill us.

The exception to this rule is mechanics, 2nd Assistants, irrigation techs and spray techs. They typically have 4-5 hours OT every week, and more on their weekends.

I work for a city, we do not pay OT except if someone worked on a holiday and did not take another day for their holiday. We do earn comp time for full time people, but few earn any (aeration or irrigation issues) except us superintendents.

Any of our staff, (full time/seasonal) that work 40 hours a week, are working 8 hour days from Sun-Thur. or Tues-Sat. Sometimes our weekends are a little slower (we have mostly seniors and they play M-F) so we can keep getting some stuff done. If busy we might mow and weedeat our perimeters. We have this schedule so when summer hits, we have guys here to 2:30 cooling/watering greens.

Rare for any of my employees to work OT. They actually average 30 hrs/wk. They work 10 on 4 off and the crew is divided into 2 teams. I have attached the schedule. I hire employees who this schedule fits their lifestyle. We experimented with it and found that the crew liked the regular 4 day weekends and the early outs. It helps because we have enough workers on weekends to cover employees being off for special lifetime events (weddings, family reunions, graduations. etc..). The weekend supervision is shared by my irrigation tech, Asst Supt, and myself. My irrigation tech is about the only employee who gets much OT. My asst gets a 3 day weekend following his weekend off, I am just grateful to have 2 weekends off in a row all season long.

I budget for 3 hours ot per week per employee. Adds a little incentive to work the 40 then 3 on Sat or Sun. Also a little bonus for destroying any social life in order to be at work at 5:30 a.m. for 3 hours on the weekends.

    Doug,

We generally do not work OT, our department head has to approve it before we use it (usually only weather related to catch up).

We work the crew M-Th 8 hrs, 4 hrs Friday, 4hrs Sat or Sunday. Full time always get OT if we have a holiday. They only work a half day but the entire thing is OT, most likely same as you!

We changed our pay periods to begin on Sunday and end on Saturday. We work 36 hours Monday thru Friday and 4 hours on weekend. Sunday falls under week 1 and Saturday under week 2 for crew 1 and reversed for crew 2
We do have additional overtime but only for aeration, irrigation issues and misc issues.

    Monday 6-3:00 (8.5)
    Tuesday 6-2:00 (7.5)
    Wednesday 6-1 (6.5)
    Thursday 6-2 (7.5)
    Friday 6-12 (6)
    Sat or Sun 6-10 (4)

Take out 1/2 for lunch Monday thru Thursday
