Due to labor shortages we have started triplexing greens as of last week.  The right edge of the right reel is leaving damage, pulling/ripping grass.  The reel is fresh off the grinder, and backlapped, cutting paper cleanly all the way across with light contact, hoc the same across the reel, new bedknife with even wear across it, both rollers are parallel and even height, all tires have the same psi. If I can't figure out how to solve this I would rather my assistant and I walk mow greens every morning ourselves, and try to change cups throughout the day vs. triplex with the amount of damage it is causing. I am stumped and any ideas are appreciated

    Good morning Cody,

You might want to repost this on the Shop Talk discussion link. Lot of sharp guys out there that regularly give responses on that thread. Otherwise you might want to talk to your equipment supplier and see what they have to offer.

    Cody,
Have you tried switching  cutting units, putting the 'bad' unit on the left of rear of the mower?  Does the problem still follow with the 'bad' CU?  If not, then your problem is probably with your traction unit hanger frame.  If it is neither of those, try a different CU, either a spare or one from another mower.  Other than that, like Gary said, reach out to your dealer for for a suggestion.

Is the reel spinning the same rpm as the other two? A reel spinning too slowly can cause interesting problems.

First off, what type of triplex are you using? We have Deere 2500E and 2500B and have had that problem in the past. We found that normally it was either the hanger that the basket hangs on had gotten bent and was dragging or the basket was dragging along the green. Try switching you baskets around. We once had a basket that had a large gash in the bottom of the basket.
Try mowing a couple passes with baskets and hangers off the unit and see if it makes a difference.

I agree with Paul about the bent hanger on a JD 2500.  We have a GP400 that did this as well.  We cut at .140 with a 15 blade reel and found the maint free front roller was bad on one side causing the HOC to mow at .125 and scalping.
