I have a a practice putting green that I have killed with high rate test with dimension about 2 months ago I have aerated dimpled seeded topdressed in the beginning with little to no success. So this past Friday I aerated again, slice seeded and topdressed. My question is I'm having trouble keeping it moist without over watering or it gets to dry before I get to it so I was thinking about spreading a light amount of straw that I can remove later as it establishes. Do you think this will help?

    Thanks
    Glenn

    Glenn,

To answer your question the straw will help retain moisture but is moisture the real issue? I believe the Dimension label has a 3 month wait window to reseed. Do you think the residual Dimension could be your culprit?

Personally I would not use the straw even if residual Dimension were not the issue. Light frequent spins of the heads around the green should be enough to maintain adequate moisture without the mess of straw. Just my preference...

I have seen straw used to retain moisture on greens. But, the cleanup after the fact the and little wheat seedlings that typically come up don't really make it worthwhile.

I have had great success when seeding new greens with using permeable covers. Cut the germination period almost in half vs the greens we didn't cover.

I have used permeable blankets as well to recover from winter damage in the spring and had great success. Good luck moving forward.

Maybe some activated charcoal first to deactivate the Dimension?
