Any thoughts on a fool proof chemical to control ants on putting greens. Haven't found anything that is effective since diazonon went off the mkt. I hate ants. John Monson

I didn't think they could be controlled either but I find Dursban works even better than diazinon

    John,

I have had good results using Aloft granular applied to dry turf followed by irrigation 24 hours later. Be sure to treat area larger than where you see activity.

Top Choice would be great but it's not labeled for anyone outside of the southern states. I would hope Bayer would get on it soon.

I also did a merdian and scimitar at a previous course I was at. I applied it by driving around my greens with 1 boom on the green, my middle boom on the collar, and my outside boom in the rough. Seemed to work very well for my situation.

Check into Triple Crown. It's gotten good results for my contacts in Ohio and Kentucky. Some are saying they are getting up to 3 months control. I just put it on my greens and am waiting to see what kind of results I get.

I have seen good results from Triple Crown and Crosscheck you just want to extend the spray a booms length at least past your areas.

The active ingredient Chlorpyrifos works good for ant control. I have not had much luck with talstar or schimitar. I have tried both just spraying the greens and then spraying the greens and surrounding areas of the green. At first spraying both the green and a loop around the green worked good but by the end of the summer the extra spray around the greens didn't seem like it extended the control.

    John,

Triple Crown or any Clothianadin. Add it with your next wetting agent app and water in.

We use Pyrate 480 EC (Chlorpyrifos), seems to do the trick. Though we most times we have to do two apply's to get the best results.
