Dear GCSAA, I think it would be a great idea to have a thread set up just for disaster advice. We currently have a few that get hardly any traffic on them at all. By setting one up for disaster assistance or advice Superintendents around the world could have a spot to look into for advice on pre-disaster advice or aftermath advice. To some Superintendents who have been through too many disasters to count, they could help others or use it to post what they are currently doing for future use by other Superintendents. Some Superintendents that may be going through the first experience with a disaster could find use full information or contacts whom they may be able to call and talk to personally. While this thread may not get used often it could become a very valuable tool for Superintendents in need.

I say this after I am cleaning up from our worst storm in 100 years where we had 95% of our course under water at one point. If not for Katrina and a few other storms it would of been very difficult for me to know how to handle our most recent ordeal.

I saved all of my information from Hurricane Andrew ('92) and the cell phone numbers for FEMA Debris Specialists were still good for Hurricane Jeanne ('04). My golf course was the first visit by a FEMA Debris Specialist in Palm Beach County. My office became Debris Removal Central for the many municipalities in this county.

Scott, this is the info that could be collected on a thread that would be a valuable resource to everyone as well as some of our experiences. It is just too hard to do a search to find the threads or post that are related to the disasters we face. The disasters coulb be anything from artic freezes to earthquakes and hurricanes and tornados. It just seems like a good idea to me.

We could have a disaster person in the GCSAA bring all of this information together and be on standby, but then we would have to put up with things like a $5 dues increase, receive emails from vendors on behalf of the GCSAA and have more ads in GCM. Ah, forget it. Let the least fortunate suffer.
