In my travels I have heard of some outrageous daily and yearly rainfall totals.... I would like to hear from as many of you as possible to gauge rainfall amounts across the state and hear how the weather has impacted your maintenance practices. GCSAA has resources to help you communicate your issues or assist you in getting back on track!!

We've been lucky compared to our brothers down south. Only 46"+/- YTD. Hampered a few sod projects, but overall was okay. I took this picture last Monday while trying to leave the shop. Visibility was about 200'.

I am in Japan at this time and our rain is 60+ inch per year and most of the time less than an inch in 24 hours may have a few times a year 4+ inches. However I did have one job in Indonesia 15 years ago and 120-140" per year and I had seen rain at up to 2" per hour a few times. Rain so strong you could not drive because no wiper could keep the window clear. Erosion was a major problem getting anything done was slow and hard. An 18 hole golf course with 20 miles of drain pipe and one drain line was 9 feet in diameter 20 feet below a fairway to the ocean outlet. I have also worked in areas with under 10 inches a year and has its own problems.

Here at my course in Coral Springs we recieved 62" from May until September. Only 2" so far this month. Needless to say this summer has been a heck of a challenge!

We dodged some major bullets this summer. 23.2" from June-Sept. Guys just north and South of us saw 2-3x as much. Only 1 "Cart Path Only" day in those 4 months. Storms just went around us all Summer long. 32.41" for the year.

I will post a few pictures and more details when I get home, but we've had 63" since June first at my club, with 10" of that coming over a 4 day period a few weeks ago

By the end of August we were up to 5 FEET, located 30 minutes Southwest of Atlanta. Weather delayed us on a lot of projects and mostly detail work. Since September 1 we've had 6-7" Ready for 2014!

We were at 62" when it finally quit a couple weeks ago. Now I have low spots that are still under water and haven't been mowed in 2 months next to dry spots. I hope it cools down soon. I had a confrontation with a golfer today who was pissed about the dry spots. When I pointed out to him that he had also been mad when we were on cart path only for the last three months and asked which he preferred, he just drove off mutter obscenities associated with my parentage.

No Canadians yet though, as far as I can tell. You can usually tell by the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the wait staff about the lack of tips.

    Regards,

    Steve
