Just curious as to if everyone wears a suit to interviews or some wear normal golf course attire (not work attire). I’m looking at a possible interview at a course where it would be more of a hands on Superintendent position and would not want to give off the vibe of a gm type superintendent, if you get my meaning.

What have some of you worn to past interviews.

I have always been of the opinion that you cannot be over dressed. Go with the suit and tie.

    James ,
Congratulations as your newest post talks about getting the job so I have to ask what did you decide to wear?

    Mark, thanks!

Well I was called by another clubs GM out of the blue one day and he told me he found my resume on GCSAA. his club was not really in an area I had considered so I told him I would need to think on it but he was pretty insistant I at least come look at the course. so I actually ask him if it was going to be an interview would he prefer me be dressed casual or in a suit. I know its really hot so I would of needed to change to look at the course and interview but he told me golf casual was ok and I could even wear shorts if I wanted to. so I wore my nicest shorts and GCSAA shirt. Interview went well. only problem was I told him my wife would have to find a job in a local hospital for us to make a move there (she makes more then I do).
It took them two weeks to get back to me but the story gets better. an hour before he called me to tell me they wanted me and needed my wife's resume. A great course about 30 miles away that I sent a resume into called me and wanted to see me the next day. Being it was going to be 90 plus degrees I work dress slacks and a GSCAA golf shirt. good thing our meeting was outdoors. The GM offered me the position on the spot. I'm currently waiting for HR to call me.
Let me say that I think it may depend on the type of club you are trying to get hired onto as well as the type of Superintendent you may be expected to be. High end private clubs should be done in a suit and tie because you are most likely going to be meeting a lot of social members that want to see it. If your going to be a hands on working superintendent and that's the image you want to put off I think the casual dress might work.

I'm just happy to not have to move.

Well James again congratulations I know you have been frustrated for some time I hope this works out the way you want all to. Being offered more to stay , multiple offers, and dressing who you are all sounds really positive and also says a lot about you. Good luck at which ever choice you choose. Even though we both know luck doesn't really have much to do with it.

Mark, you are right, luck dose not have anything to do with it. I am an honest man and the offered money to stay would of never worked. I know the club cannot afford this if they want to keep the doors open. If I stayed it would be at the same rate until the right position came around. It's just that this offer now is the right position for me and my wife. she has been driving 50mi a day for the last 20 years. now we can move closer to her job since it will knock about 40mi a day off my drive also.
