    Greetings,

We are in the process of allowing employees to play golf on a limited basis. As of now our slow days, Tuesday and Thursdays after 3:00 are those times employees can play. The BOD wants to come up with a Golf etiquette test and have each employee take it. I have been asked to help the Pro come up with something that covers everything. Anyone out there had to do this and be willing to share?

    Thanks

    Andy,

I've never done that, but sounds interesting. First thing I would do though, would be to - since it was their idea - make every BOD member take the test first, with minimum passing score of 100%.

    1. What should you do with ball marks?
    A. Complain about them
    B. Ignore yours and one other
    C. All of the above
    2. What should you do with cart direction signs?
    A. Ignore
    B. Drive over
    C. All of the above
    3. Should bunker rakes be left in or out of the bunkers (tricky one)?
    A. Rakes should be ignored
    B. Rakes should be driven over
    C. Rakes are not to be used since every bunker everywhere is inconsistent

That should cover it...unless you want to get into dress etiquette
Then you have to get into light blue shorts, straw hats, and long white socks

Not sure if this is the right forum for this question but here goes.
What is the policy for employee golf at your facility? From GM and other Department Heads on down to course staff as well as non golf course staff, kitchen, clubhouse, etc. I understand different rules usually apply for management vs non-management personnel.
Free golf? Green fees, cart fees or both/neither? Monday's only? Guests allowed? Carts vs. no carts? Just trying to get a feel for what facilities generally do regardless if they are public or private?

    Thank you in advance.

Considered high end daily fee in our area.

Any staff member may play at any non duty time as long as they aren't taking spots away from paying customers. Even during peak times as long as the tee time is open. They may bring 3 guests all comped. We encourage staff to bring guests but discourage staff from bringing the same guest too frequently. It has not ben a problem. No free golf on days when they no show for a scheduled shift. Unbelievable but that has happened a few times. With low wages and no other benefits other than a shift meal and merchandise at cost, allowing them to play golf for free is a cheaply provided benefit.

Staff may not have the last cart on the course at the end of the day unless they are directly following a group ahead with carts. They can not keep the pro shop staff on duty just for them. Without carts they can play as late as they want. When the pro shop is thinly staffed during slower times they are expected to wash and put away the carts, prepped for the next day.

    Identical to ours.

All personnel who work at the golf course are provided free golf and cart any time as long as they are off duty and not taking away tee times from paying guests. They may bring one guest (comped). All other resort personnel may play golf any day of the week after 12:00 noon for $5. They may also bring one guest at that rate. No employees, whether golf or resort, may be the last cart in. Exceptions to the guest rule may be permitted on a case-by-case basis with prior approval by me, the golf shop manager, or the superintendent.
