    GREETINGS;

    I have never seen the Golf Course job market have so many openings in New England. From Supers to Assistants, Irrigation Techs and Mechanical Techs. Also, sales Reps. and other positions pertaining to the industry. I think the pay has doubled in the past 25 years. PLUS the benefits from medical, dentist, 401Ks, lunch, uniforms, bonuses, vacation time, the GCSAA Conference and local conferences. I assume it's like this through the rest of the country.

    Many retired superintendents are still working part time at local golf courses throughout the area. There is plenty for everybody in the business and the labor force on golf courses, pro shop and clubhouse are doing fairly well.

    I think many of us have clawed our way  through delicate moments & held our tongues and took the heat in order to save our jobs.

    What do we attribute to today's market. I think all the local associations and the main one and biggest one is GCSAA. They have played a major role in where we are today.

    We must not forget our Professors who have taught us a lot of what we know. Our Allied Associations, Golf Pro, Club managers all seem to be working together. Even the announcers of major golf tournaments. Our golf course Architects will stand by our side as we stride to build the golf course that they have designed.

    As I look back it appears the whole team is working  together more so now than in the past. Keep up the good work.

    There was some talk on Twitter this weekend about the lack of students to fill openings as us older people retire, (I can't believe I'm considered an older person now.).  Other talk of how positions, hours and schedules are changing for better work/life balance.  Also, there is some concern in academia about how some turf programs are going away, the cost of 4-year degrees vs. 2-year degrees, salaries to pay off those student loans, and the lack of tenured positions at some universities so there is concern about research and the lack of up-and-coming researchers.

    Of course, didn't meant to take away the positives that you have noticed Capt.  Which there is plenty, especially from professionals on tour, Chistina Kim promotes our profession a lot.

    I guess my message is, like you said, keep up the good work and don't stop working to keep building this profession and industry.
