For  a Eulogy for the Forum.

Wake up GCSAA before it's buried.

    Hey Corey,

Sad to say but I tend to agree. I always thought these forums would be a great place for superintendents to interact from the day GCSAA first started them. While they never got to be what I thought they might be they have now become almost a ghost town. I'm not saying I have the answer but activity sure slowed down when the last major changes took place. Like you, I'm just an old retired guy who likes to throw in some advice once in a while about topics that are still relevant to me. Just disappointed to see how underutilized these forums have become.

I'm guessing some folks are working on this and trying to come up with some solutions but I can't say that for certain. Perhaps we are just behind the times and these forums can't really be relevant in the new day and age. I don't know.

The forum and job board are dead in their respective current form. Either gross incompetence or dastardly deeds.

Sadly this is where we are. Between the last changes being unpopular and the 2 main Facebook groups gaining traction this has become a ghost town. Even the turfnet forum has slowed considerably.

Like Gary I do not have the answer and I think we need a forum but this one died fast.

    Hello old friend!

I believe you nailed it on the head - not much action here!

    My very best,
    Mike

TurfNet is substantially more active than this site.

    David,

What Facebook groups are you talking about?  I am new to Facebook (finally caved in) and would like to be connected to the rescourses out there from peers.  My email is turfdoc@gmail.com if you could email the group names I would greatly appreciate it.

What do you think is wrong with the job board?  I think it is OK, no worse, maybe no better then the older ones?

The only thing I've ever noticed is they are a little clunky to zero in on one specific job title.

I find the job board exceptionally worse. Clunky, difficult to navigate, key word search is poor at best, doesn't allow click button category search, redirects you to a separate browser page...

I agree with all of that Clay,  I just thought the version before this one was similar in a lot of cases.

    Thanks!

After joining the facebook site created by Gary Grigg many I feel go there to get advice. I am now a moderator for the site, removing unprofessional posts. Gary has created a great tool that is at the fingertips of many. If interested look up golf course maintenance on facebook. 15,117 members and growing daily all over the world. Just another great tool for everyone.

Is there anyone out there anymore or is the "Forum" truly dead?

The forums were great or better still fantastic. I am going back at least 50 years or more. We had a lot of debates for the good of the association. Is PDI on anymore? I remember that topic in New Orleans. For whatever reason the forums have just about disappeared. California was one big association splitting the votes for officers and so was the Carolinas. Much discussion was held on the forums. Because of the forums some made it into the Board of Governors, and some didn't. We were all gentlemen and ladies about who should be officers this year or the following year. One thing that is missed some of us would harass each other all in good fun. My daughters used to write for me, today it might be called childish but back then it was good fun. I'll try and look up some names.

Been a long time since I have even looked here but good to see some of the old timers are still hanging around! Hard to believe how quickly the forums just disappeared! Only on here because I got a notification of a new message that was posted. That hasn't  happened in a long time!!! Stay well my fellow old timers!!

29 different forums. Maybe 5 or 6 centralized ones?

The forums got too big, or too many to deal with. I voice my opinion when it first happened and about closing down some of the threads that were not being used but as normal no one sees it. I think Facebook sites are now taking over. There are two really good ones but I see that being an issue in the future as some people have no social skills for the internet and constantly see stuff being said that may get people in trouble with thier club or with future employeement.
